MBA




 What is MBA?
Master of Business Administration is a post graduate degree which enables graduates to make career in management and advance high in leadership roles in organization, the major focus in the MBA courses is developing skills, knowledge that will enable students to take up positions of higher responsibility (varies from sales, Marketing, brand management, supply chain etc.) in the corporate world.
Companies hire MBA's to tap the full potential of their organization's capabilities, in present scenario many business positions require an MBA degree, for example, at major consumer products companies like Procter & Gamble, Kraft and Colgate-Palmolive, hire MBAs as "assistant brand managers" into the brand management department -- those without MBAs are generally not eligible for the department, to be in the senior executives MBA degree is excepted in major cases.

 Eligibility

You need to have a bachelor's degree (3-year course) or equivalent in any discipline recognised by any Indian University / AICTE as eligible for post-graduate studies; you can apply while you are in your final year of graduation. If you do get through the admission test, you will be given provisional admission on the condition that you provide your mark sheet and a certificate of passing by a certain specified date.

Exams

There are two kinds of entrance tests:
General test like CAT, MAT etc
Institute Specific Test like FMS, XLRI etc
An MBA degree is one of the most sought after career options these days. The sheen of an MBA degree has grown over the years, reason being the return on investment after completing MBA from a leading B-School that most of the people are inclining towards earning a management degree.

From senior roles in management to starting one's own entrepreneurial venture, there is a plethora of options after completing MBA. But there are some most sought after profile, which have remained a top priority among MBAs.

Other hot options are:

1. Investment banking

Investment Banking is one of the most traditional and worthwhile career options for MBAs. It has been on the top priority of MBA junta as the most preferred career option. A high pressure job, Investment Banker raises capital and advises others on acquisitions. Thus one has fair good chances to apply all the wisdom gained while pursuing MBA.

2. Management Consulting

Problem solving is the key responsibility of a management consultant. As a management consultant one also has the option to work with a consultancy firm or as a freelancer. Moreover, salary is great and you earn a lot of respect as a consultant.

3. Private Equity / Venture Capital

One of the most sought after profiles these days, finding a position in the private equity industry is a challenging prospect for MBA students. Individuals having good investment acumen can and do succeed in private equity.
For a recent MBA graduate, the private equity industry offers the opportunity to exercise many of the skills developed in business school while working in a fastpaced entrepreneurial environment that has the potential to be extremely rewarding financially.

4. Analyst

Going through the rigours of a B-school curriculum, your analytical skills would be enhanced by examining case studies and gaining lot of finance knowledge. Business Analyst: You act as an Interface between the customer and the delivery team. You are expected understand the business processes and the exact customer requirements and document them properly in a format that the delivery team (developers) understands. For being an effective BA, you should have knowledge of things like UML, RUP, Rational Rose etc. in addition to having a good domain knowledge. Experienced BAs become good IT Consultants.

5. Entrepreneurship

One of the most thrilling career options after MBA is entrepreneurship. It is for those who love risk bearing, as your resources are at stake when you start-up your own venture. It can also be called a trial and error method where you can put all the theoretical knowledge into practice, which pays hefty results if put in the right direction. But due to the level of risk involved not many people chose to go for it. According to Final Placements 2011 data, about 0.21 percent of b-school students deferred placements to start their companies.

6. Pre-Sales

Here you do things like responding to RFIs, RFPs and preparing client-specific presentations. Similar profile is that of a Business Development Manager.

7. Sales:

It could be corporate sales, software sales, retail sales etc.

8. ERP Consultant

You are responsible for understanding the business processes of your customers and implementing packaged ERP software (like SAP) after making the necessary customizations.

9. Project Manager

Project Managers are involved in a project right from the stage of requirements gathering. They are required to do Planning, Estimation, Resource (People, Hardware, Software etc.) and time management. Tools like MS Project are heavily used by PMs.

10. HR Manager

Not much work Kidding Responsible for Recruitment, Appraisal, Employee retention, Career planning, Trainings etc.

11. Quality/Testing Manager

Suitable for people with testing/QA kind of background.
