Greetings!
Today is the birthday of Srinivasa Ramanujan, considered o be the greatest mathematician of India. Here is a brief biography of Ramanujan.
A few facts to backup the very scale of his unique mathematical genius:
- By the age of 13, and based entirely on self-study, he discovered his first, original mathematical theorems of own.
- By the end of his short life (he died on tuberculosis at the age of 32), he has compiled an incredibly large number of mathematical results – about 3900 (!) – the analysis, proof and elaboration of which others are spending a lifetime with.
- Although self-taught, only a small fraction of his results were false. And as if this wouldn’t be achievement enough:
- Although self-taught, the vast majority of his (already impressing number of) results have been unknown before. His work’s been absolutely original. (His theorems have been successively proved correct posthumously.)

The Story of the Butterfly
A man found a cocoon of a butterfly.
One day a small opening appeared.
He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours
as it struggled to squeeze its body through the tiny hole.
Then it stopped, as if it couldn't go further.

Then it stopped, as if it couldn't go further.
So the man decided to help the butterfly.
He took a pair of scissors and
snipped off the remaining bits of cocoon.
The butterfly emerged easily but
it had a swollen body and shriveled wings.

The man continued to watch it,
expecting that any minute the wings would enlarge
and expand enough to support the body,
Neither happened!
In fact the butterfly spent the rest of its life
crawling around.

What the man in his kindness
and haste did not understand:
The restricting cocoon and the struggle
required by the butterfly to get through the opening
was a way of forcing the fluid from the body
into the wings so that it would be ready
for flight once that was achieved.

what we need in our lives.
Going through life with no obstacles would cripple us.
We will not be as strong as we could have been

Fresh Fish .. A Motivational Story ... !!!
The
Japanese have always loved fresh fish. But the waters close to Japan
have not held many fish for decades. So to feed the Japanese population,
fishing boats got bigger and went farther than ever.
The farther the fishermen went, the longer it took to bring in the fish. If the return trip took more than a few days, the fish were not fresh.
The Japanese did not like the taste.
To solve this problem, fishing companies installed freezers on their boats.
They would catch the fish and freeze them at sea. Freezers allowed the boats to go farther and stay longer. However, the Japanese could taste the difference between fresh and frozen and they did not like frozen fish.
The frozen fish brought a lower price. So fishing companies installed fish tanks. They would catch the fish and stuff them in the tanks, fin to fin. After a little thrashing around, the fish stopped moving. They were tired and dull, but alive. Unfortunately, the Japanese could still taste the difference. Because the fish did not move for days, they lost their fresh-fish taste. The Japanese preferred the lively taste of fresh fish, not sluggish fish.
So how did Japanese fishing companies solve this problem? How do they get fresh-tasting fish to Japan? If you were consulting the fish industry, what would you recommend?

How Japanese Fish Stay Fresh:
To keep the fish tasting fresh, the Japanese fishing companies still put the fish in the tanks. But now they add a small shark to each tank. The shark eats a few fish, but most of the fish arrive in a very lively state. The fish are challenged.
Have you realized that some of us are also living in a pond but most of the time tired & dull, so we need a Shark in our life to keep us awake and moving? Basically in our lives Sharks are new challenges to keep us active and taste better...
The more intelligent, persistent and competent you are, the more you enjoy a challenge.
If your challenges are the correct size, and if you are steadily conquering those challenges, you are Conqueror. You think of your challenges and get energized. You are excited to try new solutions.

TRUE FRIENDS
Once upon a time there lived two great friends in a hamlet near
Jaipur. Jay and Vijay had been friends since their childhood. Now, they
were studying in a college, which was at far distance from their place.
In the way, they had to cross a river, pass hills and sandy area too.
They used to go to college together. Their friendship was famous in
college.
One rainy day the two friends set out for college as usual. They
were chatting while walking. Perhaps they were discussing some point of
atomic theory which was taught the previous day. The two had different
opinions which led to heated arguments. This was followed by abusive
language by both sides. Things got so bad that in a fit of anger Jay
slapped Vijay. Shell shocked Vijay stared at his friend and wrote on
sand that “today my best friend slapped me.” Both resumed their walk but
now they were silent.
Meanwhile, they reached the river which was overflowing today. Vijay
was not a good swimmer. He stepped into the river but began to drown and
flow with force of water in the direction of the flood. Jay saw this
and without thinking for a second jumped into the river. With difficulty
he could drag Vijay out of the river. He helped Vijay restore his
normal breath.
When Vijay became normal, he wrote on a hill that “today my best
friend saved my life.” Jay who was observing all this could not help
asking, “why did you write it on sand when I slapped you and why are you
writing on the hill when I’ve saved your life?” Vijay replied that “we
should soon forget wrong done by our friends and dear ones as writing on
sand gets erased in no time, but if they do something good for us we
should always remember their kindness just as writing on stones is
forever.” Saying this Vijay hugged his friends and two went to college
as if nothing had happened.
This story is dedicated to all those who believe in friendship.

12-12-12
For those attaching special significance to numbers, Dec. 12, 2012 is
an auspicious day. While there is no generally accepted term for dates
in which the day, month and year all match – perhaps because they are so
rare – it’s important to note that after a dozen in a row, the next one
won’t come until Jan. 1, 2101.
Here are 12 facts to celebrate the century’s last sequential date:
Here are 12 facts to celebrate the century’s last sequential date:
- Couples from Hong Kong and Singapore are flocking to tie the knot as 12/12/12 is seen by some to guarantee a happy marriage. Agence France-Presse reports that in Hong Kong, four times as many couples are heading to the altar on Dec. 12, compared with last year. In Singapore, the number of marriages will multiply eight-fold.
- A Brampton, Ont., couple are set to wed at a sunset ceremony in Aruba on Dec. 12, 2012, according to The Canadian Press. Krisztina Sebesi, 34, and Rex Lu, 26, will celebrate with a 12-course meal and a cake featuring 12 starfish.
- Dec. 12 will be a momentous birthday for Kiam Moriya of Alabama, who was born on that date in New York in 2000, at 12:12 p.m., according to AL.com. He’ll be celebrating with Krispy Kreme donuts in the shape of the number 12.
- A southwestern Michigan casino is also betting that 12-12-12 is going to be a lucky day for opening its new hotel. A ribbon-cutting is planned for 12:12 p.m. Wednesday for the 242-room hotel at FireKeepers Casino near Battle Creek.
- While choosing special dates for cesarean sections is common, The Hindu newspaper reports 12/12/12 is not popular in India as it falls the day before Amavasya or a new moon, a day usually avoided for planned births.
- One of the largest events in music history will be held on Dec. 12, 2012. The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, The Who and Paul McCartney will perform at the Hurricane Sandy relief concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Organizers expect two billion people will watch through TV, radio and online streaming.
- According to Chinese numerology, one is a yang number ruled by the sun and represents independence and individualism. Two is a yin number ruled by the moon and represents symmetry and balance. Combined, the number 12 brings harmony to the yin and the yang.
- Mathematicians love 12 for its inherent divisibility. It is one of the few smaller numbers that can be evenly divided into multiple subsets: halves, thirds, fourths, sixths and twelfths.
- Because 12 can be so easily divided, it’s commonly used in measurements. There are 12 inches in a foot, 12 ounces in a troy pound (used to measure gold, silver and gems), and 12 in a dozen.
- The number 12 has found its way into religion (12 apostles), mythology (12 Olympian gods) and astrology (12 signs of the zodiac).
- Twelve often represents the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. December is the 12th month of the year; every 12 hours day turns to night or night to day.
- There are also 12 pairs of ribs in most humans, 12 face cards in a deck, and 12 people have walked on the moon.

Steve Jobs: Facts & Inspirations
- “… Every thing around you which they call life… was built by people who are no smarter than you and you CAN change it…”
- Steve Jobs was born to Abdulfattah Jandali, a Syrian, and a Political Science Professor and student Joanne Carole Schieble in San Francisco, California. He was later adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs and raised in Cupertino in California.
- The predecessor to the now famous Macintosh was the $10,000 Apple Lisa. It was named after Jobs’ daughter, Lisa Nicole Brennan-Jobs.
- After splitting up with Chris-Ann Brennan, Jobs claiming he was sterile, refused to pay child support for his first daughter Lisa. After failing a paternity test which confirmed Jobs was indeed the father, a court order forced Jobs to pay child support
- Mona Simpson, the author of several books, is Jobs’ biological sister!
- At 30, Jobs was fired by John Sculley whom he had hired to run Apple.
- Jobs went on to found NeXT computers which never tasted success but its technology lives on in the current Macs after Apple bought NeXT and integrated NeXTStep into Mac OS.
- It is Apple policy not to have dedicated parking spots for employees including for its CEO. So Jobs parks in the nearest available spot, which is usually the handicapped spot. He also drives an unmarked Mercedes Benz. Cheaper to pay the fine than to waste time getting a license plate!
- Jobs’ annual salary is $1, just enough to keep company health benefits.
- At Apple’s first Halloween party, Jobs dressed up as Jesus Christ.
- Steve Jobs is a buddhist who had travelled to India prior to founding Apple for spiritual enlightenment and came back a Buddhist. photo
- He also had this to say about Bill Gates: “He’d be a broader guy if he had dropped acid once or gone off to an ashram when he was younger”.
- When Disney bought Jobs’ other company Pixar, he also became the single largest individual shareholder of Disney. Apple isn’t his only gig you know! photo
- Steve Jobs is credited of single-handedly saving Apple, bringing a revolution in online music, creating a world-beating smartphone and leading Pixar to dominate computer animation.
- With iPad launch in 2010, the tech czar once again rewrote computing history.

The Elephant and The Blind Men
Once
an elephant came to a small town. People had read and heard of
elephants but no one in the town had ever seen one. Thus, a huge crowd
gathered around the elephant, and it was an occasion for great fun,
especially for the children. Four blind men also lived in that town,
and they also heard about the elephant. They had never seen an elephant
before, and were eager to find out about elephant.
Then,
someone suggested that they could go and feel the elephant with their
hands. They could then get an idea of what an elephant looked like. The
four blind men went to the center of the town where all the people made
room for them to touch the elephant. Each of the blind men touched one
part of the elephant that they are closest to. The blind men thought
that they can assess the elephant by feeling what they are touching. One
man grabbed the elephant’s trunk, and determined that he is clearly
touching a snake. Another grabbed the tail, and concluded that it is a
rope. The third, wrapped his arms around the leg, announced that it is
clearly a tree. Last but not least, the fourth blind man ran his hands
along the elephant’s side and determined that he had discovered a wall.
They
sat for hours and argued, each one was sure that his view was correct.
Obviously, they were all correct from their own point of view, but no
one was quite willing to listen to the others. Finally, they decided to
go to the wise man of the village and ask him who was correct. The
wise man said, “Each one of you is correct; and each one of you is
wrong. Because each one of you had only touched a part of the
elephant’s body. Thus you only have a partial view of the animal. If
you put your partial views together, you will get an idea of what an
elephant looks like.”
Moral: Each
one of us sees things exclusively within one’s point of view. We
should also try to understand other people’s points of view. This will
enable us to get a proper perspective on different situations and
events.Baby Camel and Mother
A mother and a baby camel were lying around, and suddenly the baby camel asked, “mother, may I ask you some questions?
Mother said, “Sure! Why son, is there something bothering you? Baby said, “Why do camels have humps?”
Mother said “Well son, we are desert animals, we need the humps to store water and we are known to survive without water”.
Baby said, “Okay, then why our legs long are and our feet rounded?”
Mother
said, “Son, obviously they are meant for walking in the desert. You
know with these legs I can move around the desert better than anyone
does!”
Baby said, “Okay, then why our eyelashes long are? Sometimes it bothers my sight”.
Mother
with pride said, “My son, those long thick eyelashes are your
protective cover. They help to protect your eyes from the desert sand
and wind”.
Baby
after thinking said, “I see. So the hump is to store water when we are
in the desert, the legs are for walking through the desert and these eye
lashes protect my eyes from the desert then what in god’s name are we
doing here in the Zoo!?”
Moral: Skills, knowledge, abilities and experiences are only useful if you are at the right place.

Story With A Value
A father was walking in an open field with his two sons - the younger one, Sonu, tucked in his arms and the older one, Babu walking beside him, holding his hand. The field was green; the air was fresh, the sky clear and the landscape simply breathtaking. As they were enjoying the scene, Babu spotted a colourful kite, flying in the sky. It only added to the beauty of the scene. With great excitement, he started clapping his hands and seeing his brother, Sonu also joined in imitating his brother by clapping hard and loud. Suddenly, Babu lost balance and fell with a thud. Since all his attention was on the kite above, he has lost track of where he was walking. But, Sonu too, was watching the kite and clapping. Why then did he not fall? Because he was safe in his father's arms where as Babu had let go of the father's hand while clapping. In life too, if we hold on to the Lord for support, we can be sure of one thing we won't slip and hurt ourselves.
